Three Gorges Dam China: Major Flood tests worlds biggest hydropower station – The famous Three Gorges Dam in China was threatened by a huge flood today. Completed in 2008, the Three Gorges is one of largest buildings in the world.

Flood waters of the Yangtze River exerted pressure against the dam that measured 70,000 m³ water per second and left people in the region in fear of a huge flood.

Although this was the highest water level ever to be measured at the Three Gorges Dam, the apex of the flood had already passed this afternoon according to reports in the Chinese media . Numerous contributors have helped to stabilize the the dam with sandbags and reservoirs have been drained. These measures seem to finally have payed off.

A scenario similar to the Yangtze flood of 1998 that killed more than 4,000 people was thus averted.
