Oil spill Gulf of Mexico: „Top Hat 10“ might have been successfull – The ongoing negative headlines about the oil desaster in the Gulf of Mexico now seem to tear down for the first time, since experts reportedly could have been able to reach an initial success in the fight against the escaping oil.

As the responsible oil company BP shows on its website, the 100-ton cylinder was placed on the hole in about 1500 m depth, which according to the head of the operation, Thad Allen, was a „vitally important step forward“.

BP manager Doug Suttles also expressed his confidence in „Top Hat 10“ with the following statement: „We continue to make good progress – but it can probably take another two days until it is proven whether the operation actually was a success.“

If this would be the case, a complete sealing of the active oil leek through the cap is in reach, which would keep most of the oil flow down. But because of additional, necessary relief wells, a final solution of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico probably has to wait for another few weeks.
