Meanwhile, the Austrian Elisabeth Görgl managed to take the lead on this first big event of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The troubled Olympic champion Maria Riesch, limited by a serious flu during the past days, finished two seconds behind Görgl and ranks in 14th place before the upcoming slalom.
U.S. citizen Lindsay Vonn, weakened by the effects of a concussion, ended 1.70 seconds behind in eleventh place.
