Volcano Sumatra Mount SinabungVolcano eruption Sumatra, Indonesia: Villagers on the run – A volcanic eruption of Mount Sinabung in Indonesia stampeded the island of Sumatra since last sunday, as thousands of residents tried to get away from a possible disaster.

The last outbreak of the 2460 meter high volcano is dated four centuries back and since then, no activity was recognized – so the recent eruption of Mount Sinabung came even more surprising and forced local officers to proclaime the highest alert phase.

And up to 1.5 km high ash ejection was taxed, which surprised the local people in their sleep and forced already about 12,000 villagers to escape from the expanding lava into safer areas.

At the moment, two deaths were confirmed, which came on the one hand because of breathing difficulties and on the other hand from a heart attack. Help workers are still busy to guide even more people out of the danger zone.
