Oil spill Gulf of Mexico: Double-manoeuvre „Static Kill“ + „Bottom Kill“ – The long-lasting work of the oil group BP in the Gulf of Mexico seems to reach its peak by tomorrow, since the company is confident that a planned „double manoeuvre“ will put an end to the oil spill.
Declared as a so-called „Static Kill“, tons of mud shall be pumped through the „Top Hat“, which has been sealed the hole for about two weeks now temporarily, in order to force the escaping oil and gas back into the reservoir – as well as in case of a success, the drill hole shall be sealed with cement.
In a second step, the operation „Bottom Kill“ will start simultaneously, in which the already ongoing drilling reliefs will be continued to another thirty meters to block the source from below and to use mud and cement again if succeeded.
But since a few weeks of working time have been estimated for the final completion, a positive message by BP won`t be expected in the next few days.
