Football World Cup 2010: Octopus “Paul” predicts Germany – Uruguay!

A two year-old octopus Paul, the so-called octopus oracle predicts Germany's victory in their 2010 World Cup quarter-final soccer match against Argentina by choosing a mussel, from a glass box with the German flag instead of a glass box with the Argentinian flag, at the Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen June 29, 2010. Paul has so far rightly predicted Germany's first and second round victories over Ghana, Australia and England plus Germany's defeat against Serbia. And as usual, the dubious decision of the famous octopus was eagerly awaited, since “Oracle Paul” always made the right tip for the last games of the German team – even the 1-0 defeat in the semifinals against Spain.

Having waited up to an hour during the past events, the Octopus this time just took 9 minutes to set its decision – and much to the delight of the German fans, Paul`s chosen winner was the German team.

But even if Paul could be wrong this time, the German Football has no need worry, because the performance brought during the whole tournament gives the young team already a lot of hope for a bright future in 2014, when the World Cup will take place in Brazil.
