World Ski Championships: Riesch and Vonn struggle in women’s super combined – Maria Riesch and Lindsay Vonn, two of the biggest favorites in women’s super combined, struggled in todays downhill race and finished far behind the competition.

Meanwhile, the Austrian Elisabeth Görgl managed to take the lead on this first big event of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The troubled Olympic champion Maria Riesch, limited by a serious flu during the past days, finished two seconds behind Görgl and ranks in 14th place before the upcoming slalom.

U.S. citizen Lindsay Vonn, weakened by the effects of a concussion, ended 1.70 seconds behind in eleventh place.
