U.S. Air Force tankers: Boeing and EADS get underbid – As recently reported, three different candidates are still in competition for the construction of 179 new aircraft tankers for the United States.
A day after the offer of the European Airbus company EADS, the U.S. group Boeing and now as a third bidder, the California company U.S. Aerospace with the Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer Antonov as a partner, made an offer to undercut competitors.
According to the last bidder U.S. Aerospace, the 179 planned aircraft tankers should only cost 29.55 billion U.S. dollars, undercutting the previously announced amount of 35 billion U.S. dollars.
The aircraft parts shall be manufactured in Ukraine and finally assembled in the USA. However, it is not yet clear whether the financially „unsolid“ company U.S. Aerospace can meet the requirements of the Pentagon.
The U.S. Air Force will decide about a final winner by mid-November. The Pentagon wants the new planes to replace parts of his fleed which are still from the 50’s.
